CHRIS ROCK GETS OSCAR NOMINEES TO BUY $65,000 OF GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
The Girl Scouts Of America Owe’s Chris Rock A Big Thank You
In between Lady Gaga’s touching performance of ‘Til It Happens to You and Leonardo DiCaprio’s first ever Academy Award (finally!), Chris Rock’s daughters’ Girl Scout troop was able to sell $65,243 worth of Girl Scout cookies. That’s a lot of cookies!
Chris Rock was multi-tasking Sunday night. On one side hosting the Academy Awards, on the other reaching millions as he addressed the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, in between all of that, he found the time to help his daughters sell Girl Scout cookies. He implored the actors and actresses in attendance to find it in their hearts, as well as reach into their millionaire pockets, to buy cookies from his girls. Rock spoke to the crowd saying, “I want you to reach into your millionaire pockets and buy some of my daughters’ Girl Scout cookies”. We can’t decide if Christ Rock is a little bit of a genius salesman, an opportunist, or both.
It’s hard to say no to Girl Scout cookies, and most if not all of the guests gave in. Best Actor winner, Leonardo DiCaprio got himself a box of shortbreads. Christian Bale got himself a box thin mints while fellow Brit Kate Winslet was seen looking over a box of Tagalongs. In an unaired footage from the Oscars you can see both Tina Fey and Charlize Theron reaching out to get their hands on a box of cookies or two.
You might be wondering why Chris Rock was pushing so hard to sell those Girl Scout cookies. Turns out he has a rivalry with a certain Linda Spradley Dunn who seems to keep outselling them. Chris Rock shared the story of how his youngest asked him why they never win, “Last night, Zara, my youngest, called me up and said, ‘Daddy, how come we never sell the most cookies? How come Mrs. Dunn wins every year’.” This won a lot of laughs, and maybe a little bit of sympathy, from the audience and we can be sure that Chris Rock’s girls outsold Mrs. Dunn this year.
Access Hollywood reached out to Mrs. Dunn to see how she felt about being singled out by Chris Rock, during the Oscars no less. “That was a personal throwdown” said Mrs. Dunn, who is also a Troop mom and a family friend of the Rock’s. Mrs. Dunn, however, was not the least bit miffed about the whole thing, “We have a fun rivalry,” she says, “…selling cookies is fun”.
The ever gracious Mrs. Linda Dunn even went on to say, “You can’t buy that kind of publicity for the Girl Scouts”. “That was a wonderful thing that he did” she said. No harm no foul it seems and the real winner here are the Girl Scouts.
The last time Oscar’s snacks made the news was when Ellen Degeneres ordered pizza and fed it to Meryl Streep and Brangelina during the show. The delivery guy, who thought he was delivering the pizza to producers, was shocked when Ellen led him to the stage. It was later revealed that the delivery guy, a co-owner of Big Mama’s and Papa’s pizza, was given a rather generous tip of $1000.
