Though much controversy surrounds it, the death penalty lives on, and so does the tradition of offering those who are about to die a personalised last meal. Here are some of the most bone chilling requests made by criminals on their last day on earth.

1) Victor Feguer

Victor Feguer was a cold-blooded killer who was put to death in 1963. In 1960, he moved into a shabby hotel room in Iowa, and systematically scoured the Yellow Pages for a victim. He finally settled on Dr. Edward Bartels, who he lured to his lodgings by claiming that a woman needed help. When Bartels turned up, Victor Feguer kidnapped him, and kept him prisoner for days before shooting him in the head and dumping his body. He was soon tracked down, and sentenced to death by hanging. For his last meal request, Feguer eschewed a large meal in favour of a single olive - with the pit still in. His hope? That he would be buried with the pit, which would some day grow and become an olive tree
