AMC just released another season 7 snippet of their hit TV show, The Walking Dead, and the setting looks a bit too familiar.Credit
The network will release the trailer for the Walking Dead on Friday, July 22, during San Diego Comic-Con, but in the meantime, a photo of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character Negan surveying his potential victims will have to suffice. It’s the second season 7 photo AMC has released.
If you thought Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s epic speech at the end of season 6 was cool, then there’s plenty of reason to get excited for season 7, says producer Greg Nicotero. Not only will we learn the identity of Negan’s first victim, but we will also get to see even more scenes like the one that closed off season 6, promises Nicotero.
We have been waiting for months to find out which character took a hit from Negan’s barbed wire baseball bat, and it looks like we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer, as season 7 will not premiere until October. “Yes, who was at the receiving end of Negan’s bat will be revealed in the first episode,” Nicotero confirmed on Wednesday. Nicotero, who was also the one that directed the season 6 finale, says that Negan is a character that likes to take center stage, and enjoys every bit of it.
Thankfully, there won’t be a lot of quiet moments in the season to come. “Negan is that kind of guy,” says Nicotero. “He’s the kind of guy who imagines himself on stage at a high school production and he loves every second of it. So, I don’t really see a lot of quiet contemplative moments with Negan. I feel like with Negan it’s really going to be about him gesticulating and him sort of relishing in the sound of his own voice while he commands the stage in front of whoever’s alive.”
Season 6 ended on a cliffhanger, one that has been the subject of many fan theories. One of the more less far-fetched ones claims that there are four possible victims. Showrunner Scott Gimple alluded to clues surrounding the identity of Negan’s victim, and among careful scene-by-scene examination of the episode titled ‘The Last Day on Earth’, we can narrow it down to four potential victims: Glenn, Michonne, Daryl and Rosita.
And if the POV shot at the beginning of the episode is anything to go by, you can also eliminate Daryl as a potential victim, as you can clearly see him standing in front of the person in question. Will our favorite character live through to the next season? We will find out the answer to that question in three months’ time, when season 7 premieres.
