The official death toll is 49, with more than 50 other people seriously injured. In these dire times, when heroes are needed to restore our faith in humanity, many have come out to offer their help to the victims and their families, volunteering, donating blood, or helping however they can. Several employees at a local Chick-fil-A close to the nightclub decided to deliver free food and drinks those waiting in line to donate blood and police officers who responded to the call.

“A few members of our awesome team decided to go into work on a Sunday and make some food for people waiting in line to donate blood. We love our city and love the people in our community. ‪#‎prayfororlando,” wrote the company on their official Facebook page. While some have had the gall to call it a simple publicity stunt, many applauded the good Samaritans for devoting their time to help those in need.

Chick-fil-A also donated food for the volunteers that are helping the flood victims in Richmond, Texas. “This is so heartwarming! Chick-Fil-A Lee vista is the absolute best! You all truly care about your community and customers! Thank you!!!” one person said. Buddy Dryer, the mayor of Orlando created a fund that will help those devastated by this tragedy, and will also support non-profit organisations affected by it.

The fund will also those in need in the future. “Hate may have visited our community. It’s taken the lives of innocent people. It has shaken us to our core and broken our hearts. But, hate will not define us. And, hate will not defeat us. Because, we are ONE Orlando,” said Dryer. There have been some recent developments regarding the gunman and his family. The FBI released a statement, claiming that Mateen’s wife was aware of plan to carry out the shooting, but she did not inform local authorities.

If this is true, then she could potentially face a death sentence, should a grand jury find her guilty. “Well, when we had gotten married, he confessed to me about his past that was recent at that time and that he very much enjoyed going to clubs and the nightlife and there was a lot of pictures of him. I feel like it’s a side of him or a part of him that he lived but probably didn’t want everybody to know about,” said his wife in an interview for CNN.
